Tenuta Il Sosso is located in the town of Lucignano, a medieval village of rare beauty, sitting on the border between the provinces of Arezzo and Siena. The land is mainly located in the lower hills and surrounds the splendid Leopoldino farmhouse (the estate’s pride and joy) dating back to the second half of the 18th century.
The grape varieties that are cultivated are mostly native, with Sangiovese, the leading grape of Tuscan viticulture and responsible for about 70% of the area, accompanied by historical cultivars such as Pugnitello, Colorino and Canaiolo. The vineyard extension is rounded out by international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot for the red varieties as well as Chardonnay and Viognier for the white ones.
Il Sosso focuses on the continuous in-field inspections of the vine’s vegetative cycle, aiming to attain high quality and healthy wines, as a guarantee for the consumer.
Since the 2004 harvest, the new wine cellar has been in operation, equipped with the most modern equipment and with a current capacity of about 4000 hectolitres, divided between stainless steel tanks for fermentation and storage, which are fully automated for temperature control and vinification operations. In addition, the historical wine cellar of the farmhouse has wooden barrels of various capacities for refinement of the selections.
