Tenuta Canto alla Moraia, located on 32 hectares in the rolling hills of Chianti Aretino, is an oasis of biodiversity and winemaking tradition. Named after the mulberry trees surrounding the estate, the Tenuta is located along the Cassia Vetus, a Roman road that in ancient times connected the Etruscan cities from Florence all the way to Rome, between the Arno valley and the Pratomagno Massif. The estate was renovated in 2002 to focus on quality and sustainability. With 11 hectares of vineyards at 300 metres above sea level, the property is home to a number of grape varieties, from Sangiovese to the more international varieties like Cabernet and Merlot. The vines are planted at a density of 6400 plants per hectare and trained by spurred cordon and guyot, for a limited production of 50-60 quintals of grapes per hectare. The soil, originally alluvial, is perfect for cultivation due to its sandy-clay and gravelly layers. The estate also benefits from an ideal microclimate, with hot, dry summers and cool, breezy nights that contribute to the ripening and aromatic complexity of the grapes. Having switched to Certified Organic, Canto alla Moraia is committed to respecting nature’s rules, continuing a history of excellence that makes it one of the best wine producers in the area.
