The Museum showcases its collection in the new location: the five rooms of the old Diocesan Archive at the Bishop’s Palace. The exhibition offers a small but profound excursion into the history of art from the 12th century to the present day, including works by Andrea di Nerio, Rossellino, Bartolomeo della Gatta, Giorgio Vasari, and Giuliano Vangi.

• Reduced price admission for children aged between 6 and 18 and groups of more than 15 people.
Its collection began to take shape in 1950 within the corpus of works exhibited in the renowned Exhibition of Sacred Art of the Diocese from the 11th to the 18th century at the Municipal Palace of Arezzo. The creators and promoters of this undertaking were Roberto Longhi and Mario Salmi, distinguished art historians. It was on that occasion that Bishop Emanuele Mignone decided to establish a museum with works from the Cathedral, the Chapter, and the Bishop’s Palace, as well as others from churches that were no longer in use or not well supervised.

On April 21, 2011, with the exhibition “Giorgio Vasari Santo è Bello,” the Museum took up residence at the Episcopal Palace, by decision of Archbishop Riccardo Fontana. The museum houses some notable works by Vasari himself. Among the works of the Aretine artist are the banner of the Compagnia di San Giovanni de’ Peducci from 1548, featuring the “Preaching of Saint John the Baptist” on one side and the “Baptism of Christ” on the other, and the “Madonna della Misericordia” from 1557, a silk work commissioned by the Fraternity of the Laity as part of a processional canopy. Also within the Vasari scope, perhaps executed by a collaborator, are the “Mysteries of the Rosary” from the second half of the sixteenth century, originating from the sacristy of the Basilica of San Domenico.

The life of the collection continues to unfold through bequests and gifts from artists revolving around the city.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”60px”][vc_separator type=”normal” border_style=”” thickness=”1″ up=”0″ down=”15″ color=”#000000″][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” use_row_as_full_screen_section_slide=”no” text_align=”left” css_animation=””][vc_column_inner width=”1/5″][vc_column_text]Ticket[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”4/5″][vc_column_text]Regular / € 6,00
