Flower carts for the Maggiolata Lucignanese

La Maggiolata is the flower festival that has enlivened the medieval village of Lucignano for almost a century, an event that has its roots in the peasant traditions of Tuscany when spring was celebrated with a great event intended as a propitiatory rite for an abundant harvest. All the streets, squares and alleys are dressed up and music resounds in every corner of the small Valdichiana village.
On Sunday 22 May, the spectacular allegorical floats made entirely of flowers from Lucignano’s four districts parade around the village ring, competing to win the coveted Golden Gryphon. The 2022 edition takes place in the sign of tradition and contemporaneity, with the floats inspired by the work of Jeff Koons.
