Week-End of 10-12 September: what to do in the Arezzo area

New weekend and new proposals to visit Arezzo and its territory. A rich program of events runs until Sunday and ranges from sport, art, traditions and folklore.

Over the weekend in San Giovanni Valdarno, the appointment with “La Marzocchina 2021” is renewed, the free-to-participate historic cycling tour that will bring hundreds of enthusiasts to travel through the Tuscan countryside of the Upper Valdarno, riding old bikes on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 September. epoch.
There are two routes designed for both the less experienced and the more trained: the “short” of 21 km and the “classic” of 55 km. Arezzo Crowd Festival

Until Sunday 12 September, the Arezzo Crowd Festival billboard enlivens the city with over 40 contemporary arts events including theater, music, performance and visual arts.

The Palio della Balestra in Sansepolcro

Since 1594, the Palio della Balestra has been held every second Sunday in September in Sansepolcro. In the splendid Piazza Torre di Berta, 160 crossbowmen from the rival cities of Sansepolcro and Gubbio compete as it did in the Renaissance. A precision competition that consists in hitting the target, called dogwood or badger, with an arrow shot by a large crossbow also called “crossbow” at a distance of 36 meters. The event is preceded on Saturday 11 September by the Sant’Egidio Market starting in the morning and at 9.00 pm the Flag Games in Piazza Torre di Berta.

The Spino time trial

Edition number 48 arrives for a classic of uphill speed car races, the Spino time trial, starting from Pieve Santo Stefano. The race valid for the Italian Mountain Speed Trophy in the central Italy area takes place over the weekend. The Cronoscalata dello Spino is a competition that has always been present in the elite circle of uphill motoring at an Italian level, due to the technical characteristics of its exact 6 kilometers of uphill track. This year’s edition sees the return of modern cars, in all groups ranging from Racing Start to E2-SS and the historic car race, which now have an indissoluble link with this track.

Casentino the sacred valley of the Etruscans

Until the end of September in Tuscany the magic of the Etruscan people is celebrated with a series of events that enhance the Etruscan places in the area. Sunday 12 September from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm, “The Fantastic World of the Etruscans – Sound Visions from the Past“, guided tour of the archaeological area of Masseto, a small village in the municipality of Pratovecchio-Stia.
