It is precisely from the shortest of the three itineraries that the permanent route was born, allowing people to retrace the symbolic places of Intrepida all year round, in full autonomy.
The loop route starts and ends right in Anghiari.
From here, you go right back in time by crossing the Plain of the Battle of Anghiari (1440) and skirting the early medieval church of Santo Stefano and the Maestà of the Battle of Anghiari, erected in 1441 to commemorate the historic event.
Pedal after pedal, we continue in the direction of the Tiber River and we reach the small hamlet of Viaio, then we skirt the ancient Pieve di Santa Maria a Micciano, documented as early as 1080, and we continue in the direction of the locality of Albiano. With a small detour, it is possible to reach the 16th-century Santuario del Carmine, erected following the apparition of the Virgin to a shepherdess. After reaching Albiano, the itinerary leads us in the direction of Caprese Michelangelo, but once we reach the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Selva (about 5 km from Caprese), the route makes a sharp bend in the direction of Ponte alla Piera, a small village with stone houses, located on the slopes of the Alpe di Catenaia, which owes its name to the medieval stone bridge that connects the two parts of the village. Among chestnut groves and centuries-old woods, the itinerary leads us to the signs for Villa La Barbolana, an exceptional example of a fortified villa, connected to the nearby Capuchin Convent, which can be reached by small detours. A few more pedals and we reach the beautiful Castle of Galbino, overlooking the road from the hill, surrounded by woods and cultivated fields. The route continues to the Pieve di Santa Maria alla Sovara, remembered as early as 1030, and still able to amaze us with its original layout. Leaving the parish church behind us, we set oI again in the direction of Castello di Sorci, an ancient medieval manor with an intriguing history linked to the great mercenary captain Baldaccio Bruni, better known as Baldaccio d’Anghiari. A few more kilometers and we reach Anghiari, our arrival point.
The permanent route L’Intrepida offers an unforgettable experience to be enjoyed all year round.
