The Cortona lands

Cortona is a city that has ancient origins, with visitors who come from all over the world for to experience its rich artistic, archaeological and natural heritage. The hills of Cortona have an air of peace and serenity in every season. They are home to vineyards that grow Syrah, Merlot and Sangiovese for the reds, but also Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Grechetto and Trebbiano for the whites. The quality of Cortona’s Syrah, with its fresh, decisive, elegant and powerful taste, has long since travelled outside local borders. Various legends have it that this ancient vine arrived in the Val di Chiana during Napoleon’s rule, or in the early 20th century thanks to the Count of Montecarlo. It proliferated because it found the ideal soil that brings out all its characteristics. The Consorzio Vini Cortona DOC, founded in 2000, is responsible for the protection of the designation.
