The historic Tenuta di San Fabiano, owned by Counts Borghini Baldovinetti de’ Bacci, is located a few kilometres from the walls of Arezzo, in the surrounding hills. The first document attesting to the presence of vineyards on the property dates back to 1452, when Baccio de’ Bacci sold a vineyard to finance Piero della Francesca’s frescoes in the Bacci Chapel, located in San Francesco in Arezzo. The farm originated in the post-war period as a wine business, but developed in the 1960s, as it started bottling and distributing wines. Today, Tenute San Fabiano covers an area measuring 950 hectares, 300 of which are planted with vines. The soil is mainly marl and clay, with an altitude ranging from 250 to 450 metres above sea level, and it is affiliated with the “IGP Toscano Colline Aretine” consortium. In addition to the vineyards, Tenute San Fabiano also produces high quality extra virgin olive oil. San Fabiano wines have received numerous awards, both national and international, from specialised American, British and Italian wine guides. In particular, the Armaiolo di San Fabiano was praised as a classic and elegant Supertuscan.
