The Church of Saints Peter and Ilario
The Church of Saints Peter and Ilario in Castiglion Fibocchi is an ancient church. It is now the parish church and located in the heart of the medieval village of Castiglion Fibocchi. It was the family chapel within a castle built in the 1300s but later it was completely rebuilt and enlarged. The facade is from the 1930s. Inside the church, you can see the remains of the famous 17th century leader, Alessandro Dal Borro and a portion of the wonderful fresco showing the enthroned Madonna and Child, which dates back to the 15th century. This masterpiece is unusual in its depiction of the Madonna.
There is an image of the celestial mother, who is depicted in a decidedly human fashion. It is the work of Agnolo di Lorentino, son of one of the most faithful collaborators of Piero della Francesca.
