The Big Bench in Castiglion Fibocchi

Just outside the village, a road goes uphill to the slopes of Pratomagno and runs through oak woods to the ancient Romanesque parish Church of Saint Quirico. Here, where astonishing gorse bushes welcome you and the dirt road widens, forming a natural terrace above the town of Castiglion Fibocchi, you will find the Big Bench.

Sitting on Chris Bangle’s work, you can admire, from above, the urban area, the small historic centre with the soaring tower of the ancient Town Hall and the Church bell tower. In the distance, you can see the Arno river flowing under Ponte a Buriano bridge, the city of Arezzo and its majestic Cathedral located on top of the hill, just near the Medici Fortress.

The bench is situated on a true 360 degree breathtaking balcony between two of the 4 valleys of that surround Arezzo: on your right the Valdarno; in front of you, the Valdichiana and behind you, just beyond the Pratomagno range, the Casentino.

On clear days it will also be possible to see the Trasimeno lake as well as thousands of stars in the night sky.
