The Castiglion Fiorentino Civic Archaeological Museum

The Castiglion Fiorentino Civic Archaeological Museum was founded in 2001 to display all the materials unearthed during the archaeological excavations carried out locally and in particular the extraordinary discoveries in Piazzale del Cassero related to a sanctuary in the ancient settlement of Castiglion Fiorentino.

The main core of the display is situated on the top floor of Palazzo Pretorio, which partly stands above the excavation area of the Etruscan sanctuary below. The exhibition winds its way through five rooms focusing on various topics about the ancient settlement of Castiglion Fiorentino and its environs dotted with dwellings and archaeological finds that date between the end of the Bronze Age to Late Antiquity and beyond.

The extraordinary reconstruction of the roof of the Etruscan sanctuary is significant (end of the fifth-second century BCE), as too are the depository of Brolio and Montecchio and findings from the Etruscan site of Brolio Melmone. Archaic and Renaissance majolicas from the ninth century also feature in the medieval section.

As for the Municipal Art Gallery, the admission for the museum is free.
