However, the Underground Path in Castiglion Fiorentino keeps the underground layers of Tuscan history alive and visible. Each step along the path is like entering a new dimension of the past, complete with whispers from past civilizations that tell you about times gone by. 

A sense of mystery permeates these places and there are many untold stories, for anyone who wants to listen to them. On the path, it isn’t difficult to imagine life as an ancient Etruscan or an inhabitant of the Middle Ages. This journey through the evolution of ancient Castiglioni from the 8th century BC through medieval times will take you through a village with protohistoric huts, an Etruscan home and the remains of a Etruscan sanctuary from the 4th century BC. You’ll jump forward in time when you reach the bases of the two imposing medieval towers built in this town which took great pride in its fortifications. One of the towers was used to defend the town from invaders and was built upon rock with huge blocks of square stones. The other tower also has ancient origins but those remain shrouded in mystery.
