Anghiari and Sansepolcro

Guided tour discovering Valtiberina, the valley where the Tiber river, through Sansepolcro where the Renaissance artist Piero della Francesca was born, and Anghiari where the important Battle of Anghiari took place in 1440 and considered one of the most beautiful hamlets in Italy.

The millenary town of Sansepolcro will give the traveler the opportunity of catching the various aspects of this beautiful town: history, art and architecture.After the visit of the Cathedral with its alternation of romanesque, gothic and baroque elements, we will take a walk to Piazza Torre di Berta and via XX Settembre admiring the medieval houses-towers. The visit continues to the Museo Civico, the local art museum where we will contemplate some of the most important works of Piero della Francesca like the “Madonna della Misericordia”, the “San Giuliano” and the “Resurrezione” , this one considered its masterpiece.


Anghiari, with its medieval narrow streets, is a fascinating “out of time” hamlet. We will visit the millenary S. Bartholomew abbey, the oldest church in town, the Justice Palace, and St Augustin church.Another valuable step of our visit will be the local museum “Museo della Battaglia” where we will learn about the mistery of the Battle of Anghiari painting projected by Leonardo or the “Museo Taglieschi” where we will enter into local life and traditions through the centuries.
