Guided tour of the Castello dei Conti Guidi di Poppi with thematic study on the Battle of Campaldino, in which Dante Alighieri took part. The Battle of Campaldino, fought on the day of San Barnaba, 11 June 1289, saw on one side the Florentines and their Guelph allies, on the other the Ghibellines from Arezzo and Pisa.
Among the knights, in the front row, Dante Alighieri also fought who mentioned this episode in the fifth canto of the Purgatory. Last June, on the occasion of San Barnaba’s day, the new permanent exhibition was presented at the Castle of Poppi which illustrates the famous Battle and enriches, through thematic studies, other aspects of the medieval history of the territory.
