The Feast of Forgiveness and the Game of the Well

The Feast of Forgiveness returns to Montevarchi with its wealth of tradition, spirituality, historical re-enactment and entertainment

Montevarchi renews its appointment with the Feast of Forgiveness, one of the most eagerly awaited and deeply felt events in Valdarno. For one week, the historic centre comes alive with events, shows, exhibitions, funfairs, markets, sporting initiatives, music and appointments dedicated to tradition.

At the heart of the festival is the religious celebration of the Forgiveness, linked to devotion to the Madonna del Latte, with Holy Mass and the solemn town procession scheduled for 8 September. Alongside the spiritual moment, the event offers a rich calendar of initiatives involving squares, streets, museums and cultural spaces across the town.

Among the most distinctive appointments, the Game of the Well returns: the historic challenge between the town banners held in Piazza Varchi as part of the historical re-enactment. From 4 to 6 September, the historic centre will host medieval camps, parades, flag-wavers, drummers, falconers, arts and crafts, through to the finals of the Contese and the presentation of the Mezzina and the Banner to the winning gonfalon.

There will also be the street market, the funfair in Piazza Allende, the mini funfair in Piazza XX Settembre, exhibitions, concerts, shows and convivial moments. The festival will conclude on Wednesday 9 September with Donatella Milani’s concert in Piazza Varchi and the traditional musical fireworks display in Piazzale Europa.
