The 42nd edition of the Premio Pieve Saverio Tutino focuses on “The Republic in memories”, with diaries, autobiographies, meetings, performances and civic memory
Pieve Santo Stefano, the City of the Diary, once again hosts the Premio Pieve Saverio Tutino, the event dedicated to the culture of memory promoted by the Archivio Diaristico Nazionale.
The theme of the 42nd edition will be “The Republic in memories (1946-2026)”, marking the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic. Four days of meetings, books, exhibitions, performances, concerts and conversations with the authors of the texts in competition, to reread collective history through the private voices preserved in diaries, letters and autobiographical memoirs.
Since 1984, the Archivio Diaristico Nazionale has collected autobiographical writings by ordinary people, building over time one of the most important collections in Italy dedicated to individual and collective memory. The Premio Pieve is the public moment when these stories are heard again, shared and returned to the community.
The eight finalist autobiographical accounts cover a broad period of time, from the late 19th century to the present, intertwining personal stories with crucial moments in Italian and international history: the First World War, the Resistance, the institutional referendum of 1946, repatriations from East Africa, migration, identity and paths of personal redemption.
Among the expected guests will be writers, historians, journalists and scholars invited to discuss the relationship between private memory, democracy, participation and republican history.
The 2026 Premio Città del diario will be awarded to Lella Costa, actress, writer and playwright, for her work dedicated to memory.
