"From Piero to Pier Paolo", the tenth edition of the Passioni Festival kicks off between cinema, art and dance

The exhibition “From Piero to Pier Paolo”, as part of the tenth edition of the kermesse conceived by Marco Meacci, includes an extraordinary display of the original costumes from Pasolini’s film “Il Vangelo secondo Matteo” (The Gospel according to St. Matthew), which are based on the clothes depicted by Piero Della Francesca in the cycle of frescoes “La Leggenda della Vera Croce” (The Legend of the True Cross). Next to them are scene photos of the film granted for the occasion by the Cineteca di Bologna. This is the starting point of the journey that will lead visitors to discover the close relationship that the Friulian poet and director had with the city of Arezzo, and in particular with the Basilica of San Francesco, where the fresco cycle of “The Legend of the True Cross” is located. Over the years, Pasolini’s visits to the city have been numerous, accompanied by the actor Ninetto Davoli, who will be the guest of Passioni on Tuesday 28 at 9 p.m. at the Eden Arena. Pasolini and Davoli spent a long time inside the Bacci Chapel to admire and take inspiration from Piero’s masterpiece. The extraordinary work of digital reconstruction by director Alessandro Perrella will make it possible to admire the reproduction of Piero della Francesca’s frescoes in the same place.

The Passioni Festival thus offers spectators the possibility of directly comparing the cinematographic work with the pictorial one, all embellished by scene photos of the iconic film. Finally, the exhibition will be enriched by reproductions of the clothes inspired by Piero’s figures, made by the students and professors of the Liceo Artistico ‘Piero della Francesca’ of Arezzo.

The exhibition will be open from 25 to 30 June.

Programme:
Tuesday 28 June

On Tuesday 28 June, the Festival moves from the Fortezza to the Eden Arena, where at 6.00 p.m. “Arte un linguaggio universale – la danza rende omaggio a Pierpaolo” (Art a universal language – dance pays tribute to Pierpaolo), organised by A.C. “Progetti per la Danza” with the participation of the dancers of Alfa Ballet of Arezzo.

At 6.30 p.m., presentation of the book published by Baldini e Castoldi “Quando c’era Pasolini” in the presence of the author Fulvio Abbate, a well-known writer, who will converse with the journalist Tommaso Cerno, a profound connoisseur of the Friulian artist.

Tuesday 28 June will end at the Eden Arena with the screening of Pasolini’s film ‘Uccellacci e uccellini’. The event will see the exceptional return to Arezzo of leading actor Ninetto Davoli, who did his military service here in the late 1960s. During those months, he got to know and love the city, also through the eyes of Pasolini, who took him to visit the most significant places in the historical centre, starting with Piero’s frescoes. Davoli, Pasolini’s symbolic actor, will hold a conversation with journalist Mattia Cialini.

Wednesday 29 June

The day of Wednesday 29 June will open at 6 pm at the Fortezza Medicea where there will be a performance by the actress Chiara Renzi who will read excerpts from the epistolary between Maria Callas and Pier Paolo Pasolini, in particular a letter addressed by Maria to ‘her’ Pier Paolo.

At 6.30 p.m., also in the Fortezza, Professor Attilio Brilli will hold a Lectio Magistralis entitled “Piero della Francesca nel doppio sguardo di Pasolini” (Piero della Francesca in Pasolini’s double gaze) starting from his essay “La più bella pittura del mondo. Piero della Francesca in the words and gaze of writers, poets, artists” published by Aboca Edizioni. Professor Brilli will illustrate the profound, contradictory relationship between Piero della Francesca and Pier Paolo Pasolini.
