Migrant cultures and music, nineteenth and penultimate edition.
Music as culture: proposals of quality and involvement of a wide audience, popular and innovative events, space for young and emerging creativity. This is the classic approach also for this 19th edition of the Orientoccidente Festival, which presents itself as always with a rich program involving the municipalities of Valdarno Superiore, in the provinces of Arezzo and Florence (San Giovanni Valdarno, Cavriglia, Figline and Incisa Valdarno, Loro Ciuffenna, Bucine, Terranuova Bracciolini, Castelfranco Piandiscò, Pontassieve, Reggello, Rignano Sull’Arno). Over 30 events from the second half of June to early September: concerts, theater, cinema, literature.
Some names are of great profile: Ginevra Di Marco and her fascinating songs in Figline Valdarno on Tuesday, July 11th; Arlo Bigazzi (bassist, composer, and one of the founders of Materiali Sonori) with various original projects including one dedicated to Jack London in Modine, on the Pratomagno mountain in the municipality of Loro Ciuffenna on Sunday, July 9th; the Multietnic Orchestra of Arezzo directed by Enrico Fink hosting Modena City Ramblers in San Giovanni Valdarno on July 24th for the Anniversary of Liberation; the history of Italian singer-songwriters with the magnificent voice of Antonella Ruggero always in San Giovanni Valdarno on Monday, August 21st; the poetry in the form of song by the great singer-songwriter Roberto Vecchioni in Cavriglia on Thursday, August 3rd. And many other artists such as the extraordinary American folksinger Sarah Lee Guthrie (granddaughter of the great Woody and daughter of Arlo Guthrie) with the legendary Bob Dylan’s violinist Scarlet Rivera (in Terranuova Bracciolini in an evening against the Mafia with Libera on July 14th), the show “Rossella and the others” with Fiamma Negri and Giusi Salis (in another event with Libera in Rignano Sull’Arno), Don Antonio, Giacomo Rossetti, Stefano Donato, Punkcake, Diego Coscia, The Sleeping Tree with the “concert on the river” in Loro Ciuffenna on July 30th, Yorka Rios & Cubania Y Tradition, and then Paffest and Vita da Vicolo, the new book by Marco Noferi with Enzo Brogi, Orio Odori, and Paolo Hendel.
Within the framework of Orientoccidente in San Giovanni Valdarno, between July and August, the ninth edition of the La Nostra Memoria Inquieta film festival will also take place, featuring films on celluloid dedicated to the cinema of Martin Scorsese. Curated by Alessandro Elmetti and Alberto Vangelisti.
