  5. IL MONDO IN TASCA, 150 YEARS SINCE THE BIRTH OF GUGLIELMO MARCONI

Il mondo in tasca, 150 years since the birth of Guglielmo Marconi

The exhibition is part of the celebrations “Il mondo in tasca – 150 years since the birth of Guglielmo Marconi, 100 years of broadcasting in Italy and 70 years of RAI Radiotelevisione Italiana”

“L’ha detto la Radio” (“The radio said it”) was the key phrase of the years of wides-pread diffusion of the radio medium, which was the first to establish itself as the absolute protagonist in the dissemination of information, always considered the voice of truth, and then, with time, to be joined by TV and online information. The exhibition will display original equipment recalling the first successes of Guglielmo Marconi, the inventor of the radio, from 1895 onwards followed by vintage equipment from the early 1920s (the beginning of Italian radio) and later eras up to pocket transistors testifying to the constant miniaturisation of technology.
A rich and varied calendar of events will be scheduled, including new educational activities, campu-ses, conferences, and off-shows, all centred on the history and future of telecommunications, whose importance is underlined by the celebrations planned in Tuscany by the MUMEC Museo dei Mezzi di Comunicazione.

Exhibition opening on 17 May at the Casa Petrarca at 5 PM
