One hundred shots made by important photographers of his time, return a picture of the great Mexican artist. A portrait of an extraordinary woman who managed to exercise her personality in a full and proud way, constantly rejecting conformity and transforming suffering into beauty.

The Sansepolcro Civic Museum hosts the exhibition “Frida Kahlo, A life through images” until 13 October, an itinerary told by over one hundred shots, mostly original, which reconstructs the events of the countercurrent life of the great Mexican artist, in search of the reasons that have transformed it into a female and pop icon at an international level.
The photographic exhibition on Frida Kahlo intends to pay homage to an artist, much loved all over the world, who embodies one of those cases in which art and biography intersect inextricably, making a character unique. To say that Kahlo was a symbol of her time, the first half of the twentieth century, and of her country, Mexico, in a period of fervent social struggles, is certain but also an understatement, as Frida is now an emblematic figure, a icon of contemporaneity, which summarizes in her art the manifestation of an extraordinary female will, out of any space-time coordinate.
In it, artistic genius and tearing suffering, lightness and vital torment, a ribbon wrapped around a bomb, as Breton said, represent mirror faces of an out-of-the-ordinary existence.
This exhibition project ideally concludes a trilogy of exhibitions, which began with Mc Curry and continued last year with Banksy, which manage to arouse fascination and attention on art even by the youngest.
On display are also some documents such as the original catalog of Frida’s exhibition, organized by André Breton in Paris, the first “revolutionary painting manifesto” signed by Breton and Rivera, a photographic documentation of her famous Casa Azul and a large painting made by the Chinese painter Xu De Qi who reproduces Las Dos Frida. The exhibition ends with a video that collects the few filmed images of the great Mexican artist.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Sansepolcro and organized by “Civita Mostre e Musei” and “Diffusione Italia International Group” and is open to the public, on the following days and times: Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10-13.30 and 14.30 -19.
To enter the Museum, reservations are required on Saturdays and Sundays by calling 0575.732283.
