An exhibition by Michelangelo Pistoletto bringing contemporary art, spirituality and social responsibility into dialogue
The Rocca Maggiore in Assisi hosts “Franciscus. Brother in Art”, an exhibition by Michelangelo Pistoletto created specifically for the city of Saint Francis and presented within the celebrations marking the eighth Franciscan centenary.
The project stems from a symbolic gesture by the artist: the proclamation of Pope Francis as the “First Saint of Art”. From this starting point unfolds an exhibition that reflects on the relationship between art, spirituality, intercultural dialogue and collective responsibility.
At the heart of the exhibition is the theme of the Third Paradise, one of the most recognisable symbols of Pistoletto’s artistic research, interpreted here as a space for encounter and reconciliation. The works engage in dialogue with the figure of Saint Francis and the landscape of Assisi, inviting visitors to reflect on the role of art as a tool for connection, harmony and transformation.
The choice of the Rocca Maggiore makes the experience particularly evocative: a visit to the exhibition is combined with the discovery of one of the city’s most important panoramic sites, offering sweeping views over Assisi and the Umbrian valley.
