Festa del Perdono

For almost a thousand years, the Festa del Perdono has been celebrated in Montevarchi.

It’s a festival that enlivens the entire village with historical reenactments, medieval dinners, processions in costumes with musicians and flag bearers, and the ancient “Gioco del Pozzo”.
The event takes us back to the Middle Ages, recalling the arrival in town of Count Guerra with the Relic of the Holy Milk of Our Lady as a gift to the Prior of the Insigne Collegiata. The days are punctuated by traditional rituals that accompany visitors until the late afternoon and evening when, in the town’s central square, challenges take place between the teams of the districts with the Gioco del Pozzo (Well Game), competing for the priority right to draw from the ‘town well’.
Entertainment, tradition, culture, solidarity and sport animate the Valdarno town for the entire week, with incursions by the famous youtuber Wikipedro, the ‘Aperì ROCK-ino’, the fun fair in Piazza Allende and the mini fun fair for children in Piazza XX Settembre.
Among the highlights are the entertaining theatre show in Piazza Varchi ‘Tre maledetti amici’ starring Giovanni Veronesi, Nino Frassica and Alessandro Haber, and the fireworks in Piazza XX Settembre.
