Ancient transhumance: Mount Calvano and Compito

Walking on an ancient Etruscan transhumance route to discover a territory of extraordinary beauty between Casentino and Valtiberina.

Following the Apennine watershed that separates the Valtiberina from the Casentino, we will retrace the ancient ridge road that leads to Mount Calvano, passing in the shadow of the Sacred Mount of Verna observing beautiful views. On the Valtiberina we will follow the “Via Maremmana Etrusca” the ancient route of transhumance passing through Compito, a pretty stone village that houses a valuable work of art in its church and where is the “Source of St. Francis”.

The length of the route is 12 km with 450 m of elevation gain.

Required hiking shoes, rain cape, dress in layers with clothing appropriate to the season and weather conditions, water bottle (on the path there are points where to get water).
