The weekend of the Giostra del Saracino arrives in Arezzo and the entire city is immersed in the colours of the festival for the entire week. Giostra del Saracino, a plunge into the Middle Ages

Arezzo renews the appointment with the Giostra del Saracino, the chivalrous tournament of medieval origin also mentioned by Dante in the Divine Comedy, which fascinates the people of Arezzo and attracts thousands of visitors every year. It is an event that allows one to get to know the true soul of the city, a historical re-enactment that inflames hearts and minds. The programme foresees on Thursday 16 June at 9.30 p.m. the dress rehearsal, what for the people of Arezzo is known as the ‘Provaccia’. Then the Propiziatorie Dinners on Friday evening, which will allow visitors to experience the unique atmosphere of the four city quarters, Porta Crucifera, Porta del Foro, Porta Sant’Andrea and Porta Santo Spirito, amid rituals and tradition.
The highlight will be Saturday 18 June at 21.30 with the Giostra del Saracino at night in the setting of Piazza Grande, with the epic challenge between the jousters.

The three city districts, Porta Romana, Rione Cassero and Porta Fiorentina, challenge each other on horseback
in the circular track characterised by the tuff ground. The entire day on Sunday is marked by the rituals of the Palio. In the morning at 10.00 a.m. at the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie del Rivaio the Holy Mass is held, followed by the Blessing of the horses and the marking of the jockeys. In the afternoon, at 3.15 p.m., the historical parade, with over 500 participants, parading through the streets of the old town centre and then entering Piazzale Garibaldi. At 6.50 p.m., after the reading of the proclamation and the bursting of the first firecracker, the horses enter the track and the challenge begins.

Environment Future climate… and photography

Saturday 18 June sees the opening of the ‘Ambiente Clima Futuro’ exhibition at the Centro Italiano per la Fotografia d’Autore in Bibbiena. This is the final exhibition of a project realised by FIAF and the CENSIS Foundation, an initiative of photographic documentation and interpretative analysis of the phenomenon of environmental protection in our country, carried out by professional and amateur photographers.
Over a thousand authors participated in the project with no less than 14,448 photographs, and the selection of works on show is intended to be an opportunity to reflect on these processes of transformation, recounting both the places and activities that give rise to projects and experiences of recovery for a return to a more natural environment, and those situations where exploitation and impoverishment are still underway to support an economic system that is increasingly in need of resources that are difficult to renew.
